Earth Day April is known not only for its Earth Day Celebration on the 22nd of the month, but also for Global Youth Service Day, April 26-28, 2013. Whether you join the campaign or not, why not take some time this month to carry out their mission and pledge, which states: “Celebrate the young people in your life, serve alongside of them in your community with an act of kindness and share your belief in the power of youth.”

Here are some great ways that you can serve, not only in the community in which you live, but also in our global community:

Birthday Wishes is a non-profit organization that provides birthday parties to children who are homeless. Visit their website to see how you can get involved, then watch this clip from the NBC Nightly News that features their charitable venture.

Disney’s Friends for Change campaign encourages kids to take action to save the planet with printables, video clips, pledges and even recipes. Disney and its partners create a win-win situation when stars whom our little learners idolize issue the challenge and lead the charge.

If you’re stuck at home but still want to help, Free Kibble is an online game that lets you help to feed hungry dogs. Ten pieces of dog food are donated to animal shelters for each right answer in their Bow Wow Trivia game.

If you’d like to help feed hungry people, Free Rice, in partnership with the World Food Programme, offers the chance to donate grains of rice for every right vocabulary answer you click. Play the Spanish or German games to learn some words in another language.

For those of you who are really interested in going green, Michael’s Crafts Store is partnering with American Forests in its current “Re-Leaf” campaign during which you can send a text and they’ll plant a tree. Their goal? 10,000 trees. Text RELEAF to 273283.

Need some new shoes? Skechers will gift a pair of Bobs for every pair of Bobs that’s purchased. They’ve already donated 3 million so far and counting.

The idea behind We Give Books is simply powerful: Read. Give. Share. Visit them online to see just how easy it is to donate and share your love of literacy.

Finally, the World Wildlife Fund is wild about its games and activities to increase awareness about key conservation concerns in the world. See how something as simple as an email can help “achieve big wins for our planet.

How will you help your little activists help change the world?
